The central element of SIFE is that students use the knowledge and the resources they have access to, to help others. SIFE teams develop outreach projects that help others improve their quality of life and standard of living; projects are often designed to directly educate and/or create a learning opportunity for a particular group.

The SIFE program concentrates on the following:

Considering the relevant economic, social and environmental factors, SIFE teams effectively empowered people in need by applying business and economic concepts and an entrepeneurial approach to improve their quality of life and standard of living.
