About

This project was established after a brainstorming-session with several representatives of the Municipality of Groningen to uncover in which areas we, SIFE RuG, can help the city of Groningen to improve society. The Sustainability @ RuG seeks to make the university sustainable and to enhance the use of fair trade products at the canteen and the facility services. This goes hand in hand with raisin awareness among both employees and students at RuG about the need to consume fair trade products.

Target Group

Our target groups are the employees and the students of the RuG. We think that it is very important that a university sets a good example about sustainability for the society and also for the students who are probably going to work for or own companies in the future. The first step of making the university sustainable is to enhance the use of fair trade products at the canteen and the facility services.

Future Plans

In order to make this project a success we are planning to implement to following steps in the future:

We seek to create a network within and outside the RuG to support a sustainability system within the university. Furthermore, we want to introduce Fair Trade Products in the Canteen and MiCafe (especially coffee and chocolate). As we are not only seeking to offer fair trade products, but moreover also want to address paper-use and energy consumption, the project will also take steps to lower the paper consumption as well as the energy consumption.
