Ms. De Jager about entrepeneurshipMany entrepreneurs are having problems with starting their own business, often because of a lack of appropriate knowledge. Especially our target group, consisting of young women between the ages of 16 to 20 and continuing their education in vocational schools, needs help in business education and financial literacy, as there are no economic courses included in their training. Our goal is to fill in the gap by teaching them the basic principles of successful entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
Due to the success of the project in May 2006, the Alfa-College asked SIFE University of Groningen to do the same kind of project in 2007, but this time for another group of students.
The project of the academic year 2006-2007 was executed at the Alfa College (Groningen) on Monday the 19th of March. The goal of our project was to make vocational students of the hairdressing school aware of their financial situation, to give them advice on how to start a business, give the initial impetus to start thinking about entrepreneurship. The project consisted of two lectures and one workshop.
Students working on their own business planThe lectures were given by Ms. Ria Jager working at Remake Imago-Adviesbureau from Veendam and Ms. Elahe Nazar working in hairdressing salon Talla from Groningen. Both entrepreneurs were able to share their experience in opening a business, gave a lot of practical information and tips for successful start-up.
The last part of our project was a workshop, in which the students practiced the theory just learned in the lectures, by writing some features of a business plan. We received almost 90 business plans. The best business plan was rewarded with an award sponsored by Kinki Kappers.
We would like to thank our Kinki Kappers for the award, HSBC for their financial support, and our guest speakers for their inspiring lectures. |
