Fabienne Teunissen

MSc in Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of Groningen)

During my three years with SIFE Groningen, I was involved in several interesting projects, including "Personal Financial Management" a workshop aimed at making young people conscious of their expenditures; "Nicaragua", a project aimed at supporting a group of teachers in starting up their own language school; "Enterpreneurship" and "Alfa College", in which students of vocational schools were taught the principles of entrepreneurship, essential knowledge that was lacking in their educational programmes.

Being involved in this diversity of projects, gave me the opportunity to improve skills necessary for the management of projects. Thanks to my time with SIFE, I gained useful knowledge and experience with topics such as the identification of key performance areas, budgeting and meeting targets. Working in a team of students with such a diverse background and learning from each others skills and knowledge was an extremely worthwhile experience!

The start-up of the organization, expanding the team, staying focussed on both short- and long-term goals and working on the sustainability of the organization - tasks for which I was responsible during the years in which I was chairman of SIFE Groningen - were unforgettable challenges. Being awarded with the "Spirit of SIFE"-award during the National Competition of 2008 was an enormous encouragement for our team, but the skills and knowledge with which we are awarded thanks to our involvement with SIFE, are worth even more!

Through SIFE I learned how I can make a difference in this world and at the same time improve my own skills. SIFE helped me to understand how prepared I need to be to face the challenges of today's business world. Besides, SIFE gave me the opportunity to get in touch with important business leaders and taught me to never give up and and always search for out of the box solutions.
